Leadership Lesson No 76: Real Talk

I didn’t purpose to be in the space that I find myself in.  God plucked me from the path that I had set out for myself & set me on an alternative journey. At the start it all appeared somewhat ‘accidental’ but I know now that it was no accident, rather His design, His purpose for my life…

So now that I am here, these are my confessions…the lessons I am learning about being a woman in business, building an empire, one brick at a time…

 Leadership Lesson No 76Real Talk

“Emotional intelligence does not mean merely "being nice". At strategic moments it may demand not "being nice", but rather, for example, bluntly confronting someone with an uncomfortable but consequential truth they've been avoiding”

- Daniel Goleman

I have learned that Emotional Intelligence is NOT being soft.

Having a high EQ doesn’t mean being a walk over.  It means leveraging BOTH thinking & feeling to make optimum decisions.  It means responding, rather than reacting – taking a moment to think about the long-term impact of actions taken. It means calling a spade a spade, respectfully – regardless of how uncomfortable it may feel to do so.

Rather than avoiding conflict, individuals who are high in Emotional Intelligence tackle issues head on.

The key is to treat the problem as the problem & not the person as the problem.
