I didn’t purpose to be in the space that I find myself in.  God plucked me from the path that I had set out for myself & set me on an alternative journey. At the start it all appeared somewhat ‘accidental’ but I know now that it was no accident, rather His design, His purpose for my life…

So now that I am here, these are my confessions…the lessons I am learning about being a woman in business, building an empire, one brick at a time…

Lesson No 69The Woman In The Mirror

“Wisdom tends to grow in proportion to one’s awareness of one’s ignorance.”

– Anthony de Mello

Many people think about their lives as something that just happens to them instead of something that they can control themselves. They drift through life reacting to the actions of others instead of taking steps on their own behalf.

I have learned that taking ownership starts with asking why.

Why do I feel the way that I do?

It’s hard to manage what you don’t understand.  It’s hard to reframe patterns if you don’t realise that they exist.

Self-awareness is defined as the conscious knowledge of one's own character and feelings. It is at the heart of the journey to develop greater Emotional Intelligence and it is an essential skill for success at work, an in life.

Self-awareness is the capacity for introspection, and it includes understanding strengths and weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs and ideals, values, attitude and motivations as well as emotions and emotional triggers.

Research shows that greater self-awareness helps individuals to be more proactive, more efficient & effective, leads to better decision making and enhanced communication skills as well as increased confidence levels and greater wellbeing.

Anyone who is dedicated to personal & professional development must actively seek to understand self, to gain a better understanding of the ‘woman in the mirror’. This is because it is only when you are clear about your strengths and weaknesses, that you can truly utilise that insight to map the way forward & create the future that you want.

Emotional Intelligence is being more aware, more intentional & more purposeful! Emotional Intelligence is at the heart of leadership.
